WBTC learners act as stewards as the Torch passes through Newbury

WBTC are very proud of our learners, who took part in the historic events of 11 July as the Olympic Torch passed through Newbury. Ricardo Lough-Fidalgo, above left, and Stephen Cockram, above right, were both volunteer stewards, whilst Leonie Wise and Claire Terry (bottom) helped to distribute flags to the spectators.

The atmosphere along Northbrook Street and the Market place was amazing. ‘We were being asked for our autographs!’ Leonie said, ‘Little kids were asking us to sign their inflatable torches – so we did!’

‘I really enjoyed myself,’ Stephen said, ‘Its been a lot of fun and I am proud to have taken part and helped to keep the crowds safe, making sure everyone else could enjoy it too!’

Our staff were also getting into the spirit of this historic event, with hand decorated tee shirts, flag waving and a celebratory buffet; Managing Director Matt Garvey even met Newbury MP Richard Benyon on the route!
