Since 1983 West Berkshire Training Consortium has been providing high quality apprenticeships and training to organisations and young people across West Berkshire and beyond. We have trained over 15,000 apprentices in a wide range of occupations from accounting to warehousing. Learners and employers benefit from our personable, tailored approach and one-to-one support, resulting in high achievement and progression rates.

Board of Directors

WBTC has a strong and active Board of Directors/Trustees made up of dedicated, experienced individuals.

This allows WBTC to lead the way in creating opportunities and expanding capabilities in local businesses as well as helping individuals start and develop their careers.

Matt Garvey

MATT GARVEY – Managing Director

Matt is a graduate of the University of Southampton and joined WBTC in 2000 working in employer engagement to place young apprentices in the local area. Matt became Managing Director in 2011 and has steered WBTC to become a high quality provider offering a diverse range of training services to young people and adults alike.

Anthony Bravo

ANTHONY BRAVO – Chairman

Anthony is the Principal of Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT) and his passion and vision are to provide an outstanding learning experience for all its learners to drive economic growth and prosperity in the region. Anthony also serves as a Governor for Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, representing North Hampshire and West Berkshire.

Richard Tinsley

RICHARD TINSLEY – Vice Chairman

Richard has nearly 40 years’ experience in the world of nuclear safety and engineering in various roles including Main Board Director. He believes that individuals’ contributions and personal development are a prime factor to organisational success. Richard is a keen walker and sailor and has tackled some of the most challenging mountains and oceans.

Iain Cox

IAIN COX – Director

Iain joined the WBTC board in 2014. He worked for the Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service for 35 years and was the Chief Fire Officer 2003 to 2013. Iain currently chairs three national networks and councils covering fire and sprinkler issues and is a volunteer with the local Cats Protection branch and the RNLI.

Anne Millar

ANNE MILLAR – Trustee

Anne joined the WBTC board in 2017 bringing over 40 years of experience in both the private and public sectors. Anne also led the highly successful WBTC apprenticeship programme in her previous role as HR Project Manager at James Cowper Kreston.

Nicola Penfound

NICOLA PENFOUND – Trustee

Nicola joined the WBTC board in 2019 and works for Bayer Plc as Head of Business Services within the healthcare sector and is responsible for the operational activities for UK and Ireland. Nicola is also an Enterprise Adviser for the Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). She has worked closely with WBTC since 2013 and is the apprentice ambassador across the business championing early career opportunities in business administration and customer service.

Dave Murray

DAVE MURRAY – Trustee

Dave joined WBTC as a Trustee in 2021. He completed an engineering apprenticeship with the MoD. He then went on to hold senior positions in both public and private sectors (including Apprentice Training Manager) becoming a Chief Engineer, Chair of the Engineering Council and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Dave is also a representative volunteer on various NHS committees.

Hilary Purton

HILARY PURTON – Trustee

Hilary has over 24 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical industry at Bayer plc where she was Head of Customer Service UK/I, and more recently as Head of CRM UK/I at Essilor plc. She developed a highly successful apprentice talent pipeline within the  Customer Service function at Bayer, with many apprentices going on to develop their careers in the company.  Hilary brings the experience of having served as Chair of Governors at The Willows Primary School, Newbury.
