National Apprenticeship Week, 11-15 March 2013

National Apprenticeship Week 2012 was a massive success, with highlights including Channel 4 apprentices showcasing their own film charting their Apprenticeship journey and Derby County FC introducing local apprentices to a capacity crowd before the local derby kick-off with Nottingham Forest! Co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service, this event is designed to celebrate Apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the economy.

We are already counting down to the sixth annual National Apprenticeship Week taking place from 11-15 March 2013, with the theme “Apprenticeships Deliver,” looking at the benefits of Apprenticeships for both employers and apprentices. With hundreds of events expected to take place across England, this looks set to be the most successful National Apprenticeship Week to date.

There are many ways local businesses can participate and celebrate the contribution of their Apprentices. For instance, you could try:

  • a job swapbetween an Apprentice and a Senior Manager, allowing both to get an insight of each other’s day to day roles
  • your apprentices could keep a video or twitter diaryfor the day, highlighting the challenges and successes of their role, which would look great on your website and act as an advert for other young people seeking out an Apprenticeship
  • invite along a journalist or your local MP – or both – for the day, maybe to shadow one of your Apprentices

David Way, Chief Executive of the National Apprenticeship Service, said: “We hope that this year’s National Apprenticeship Week will be the biggest yet, showcasing the excellent work delivered by apprentices in businesses and organisations around the country and the first rate training they receive.”
